Brothers at 11 weeks old

Brothers at 11 weeks old

I found a picture of Rome at the age Rex is right now…11 weeks and tried to duplicate it. I don’t know the first thing about photography, so the lighting is off, but the side-by-side is fun. Definitely brothers, but Rome looks “Reinke.” Rex looks “Martens.”

Looking at a picture like this of Rome makes me realize how soon Rex will be outside helping Dad do yard work too. Yikes, they grow up too fast.

One Month

We updated you on Lydia daily, Rome weekly, so it seems about right to update you on Rex every month. :) One month has flown by. Rex is such a sweet boy. Keep him fed and he is content all of the time. Lydia and Rome are starting to interact with him more and more as he stays awake. Lydia tells him all of the things he gets to do when he’s bigger like her. We’ve definitely had to slow our rhythm down a bit having a new guy around, but spring weather is near and we look forward to being on the go outdoors again.

Here is our Rex after one month with is sock monkey from Auntie Al.

Happy Boy

A couple of snapshots if Rex. He is one happy dude. We are busy around here soaking this new life in.

Baby Rex is Here!

After marinating 10 days past his due date, Rex Craig Martens entered the world at 3:56pm and has been a happy, content baby ever since. All 11 pounds, 2 ounces and 22 1/2″ of him are just perfect. More to come, but he’s here!! Mom is doing exceptionally well and we should all be home tomorrow to start the journey as a family of FIVE. Praise God.

Introducing Rex “King”

The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord;

he turns it wherever he will. (Proverbs 21:1)

Enter Your Guess!

The winner of Rome’s statistics was Tate.

For your information, Rome was due 1/11 and born 1/19. He was 10 pounds, 1 ounce and 21 1/4″ long.

Our January In a Post

I suppose we could still have some excitement in the next three days of January, but since there’s a quick break from the chaos and mess (Daddy was in charge here), I will sum up our past month.

First of all, January 7th our ballerina-loving, sweet, nurturing little girl turned four.  FOUR!  What happened?!  She’s got a personality that’s really starting to shine through all day long. She loves to “ballet” at the sound of a tune, picks out the frilliest, pinkest, girliest dresses (where did she get that from?) and keeps Rome in line.  This year has been so much fun for us to watch her blossom into her own space and find things that she really loves to do.  Every day is filled with creative ideas, like opening a ring and dress shop. Creating silly lyrics to well-known songs (like Daddy). Playing doctor and making sure her babies are all taken care of. I’d like to pause her right  now, but she said she’ll stop growing up for us at five.  I guess we can compromise there.

On the 19th, we celebrated Rome turning three.  Again, what happened?!  “They” say that the “days are long and the years are short.” I’d say my days are short and my years are even shorter.  This little guy went from my baby to my right-hand man pretty quickly. He loves to help out with projects that use his “muscles” and enjoys getting in on any physical work that Gpa and Daddy are doing. I am slowly learning just how much he loves to figure out how everything works and that requires some destruction and chaos before that busy mind can slow down. I am always amazed at how rambunctious he can be, but then can completely slow down and help out Lydia when she needs something.  A push up the stairs or something off the counter or help carrying a toy.  By God’s grace, he has a huge heart to serve and is happy and silly most all of the time.

{For some reason I missed getting a picture on his birthday, but I can assure you, it was FILLED with trains.}

Big Rex, is getting close to making his big debut. Due date is three weeks away, though we’ll shoot for a birthday before March at least. I am feeling way too good to be ready to give birth, so I’m quite certain he is hibernating a little bit longer. Let’s hope he’s not a competitor who tries to match his brother’s 10 lb, 1 oz birth weight.

I feel as large as the street car behind me, but WOW. I am amazed at the miracle that this little life is. Every movement, every set of hiccups, every kick in the organs reminds me of how blessed we are to get to experience this yet again. Completely undeserving of this gift. We can’t wait to see who God is adding to our family next in Rex. I was bad at updating the blog with two kids.  This may be my last post ever.  Ha!

As we close out January, we have so many memories to add to our life’s scrapbook.  Christmas memories of a house full of family that all made it back home this year.  Tim starting our Christmas 10 days early because he could not wait to give the kids their gifts. Toby the train and Rome “tugging” the tree down when Christmas was over. Two birthdays spread out over three little family parties.

The little moments will make the book as well. Like “tattooing” their faces with marker. The 60 degree day where we got a reprieve from winter and a day outside. A couple days of nesting (gosh, I love that feeling). Deactivating Facebook. :) So many good things. So many uncomfortable things too, which He is working together for good. More to come soon, Friends!

Merry Christmas 2013 & Happy 2014

To all of our family and friends, have a very Merry Christmas

and we hope your 2014 is filled with JOY as you see His blessings all around.
